There are many historical places in our country. I’ve visited some to those. Top most historical places are Lalbag Fort, Ahsan Manzil, Panam City, Mahasthan Garh. Shat Gambuj Mosque, Liberation War Museum, Mainamati, Shaheed Minar and so on. In 2000, I got an opportunity to visit Mahashan Garh. This was my first study tour.

Mahathan Garh is one of the most earliest urban archaeological sites so far discovered in Bangladesh. Francis Buchanan Hamilton, a physician, first, discovered this place in 1808. However, he made some significant contributions as a geographer during his stay in Indian subcontinent. It is the last remaining piece of a village ‘Pundranagara’ of that time. The village was alive until the 8th century AD. This area is now preserved with nice natural hilly look to enjoy leisure. People from everywhere come to spend some quiet time here with natural serenity.

Q. “Visiting combines theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge,” explain.

When we read about anything or place, we get an overall idea but we don’t know how the place actually is. As a result, different people explain it differently. Sometimes, the explanation does not match with reality.

But when we visit the place, we come to know what the thing actually is and what traits it has. As a result, we can combine our theoretical knowledge with the practical experience.

Again, while visiting we don’t have all the ideas about the thing. In this case, we can match our knowledge with the practical thing. After visiting, if we read about these places, we are able to fully understand the subject.

For example, it is very difficult to understand the nature of various types of soils, forests, etc. simply by reading textbooks. But travelling to those places helps a student to grasp the depth of the subject.
